If you have always liked Halloween and if you are a movie lover, we are here to give you some ideas about how to decorate your living room in order to celebrate Halloween moderately. We don’t want your house to seem to be taken out from hell. It must be a celebration with friends, having a ball grabbing handfuls of popcorn under a blanket in case people want to cover themselves. Because there will be jump scares.
1. Get some pumpkins: No matter if they are false, the point is that you can’t decorate your living room without them. They represent the symbol of the party, and they must be strategically distributed. You can place one of them just at the entrance of the dining room, as a welcoming gesture. You can also put a couple more at both sides of the couch, or even on the television set!
2. Switch off all the lights: Light is a central element of Halloween, or, more specifically: the lack of light. The party could never be understood if it wasn’t celebrated in the midst of darkness. That’s why we strongly recommend that, when your friends arrive, the lights of your living room must be switched off. Use candles if you want the environment to be more frightening.
3. Reuse white old bed sheets: The abandoned houses have played a major role in the horror genre. You should create an atmosphere where the sense of abandonment is palpable, cover your sofas and the rest of furniture with old white bed sheets as if the house had been uninhabited for years. It is a useful trick.
4. Be creative and start cutting cardboard: You don’t need to spend hours and hours cutting out pieces of cardboard to leave hundreds of silhouettes on the floor until no tiles are seen, just dedicate some time cutting dark shapes of bats, spiders or rats and put them where you think they are going to be more terrifying. Next to the window, stuck in the ceiling, or even on the stairs that lead to the upper floor…
5. Withered flowers in old vases: If you have any vase which is too old but that you haven’t thrown away yet without knowing why, there is an alternative use for it that will contribute to provide a spooky atmosphere: put some withered flowers in it. That is when you won’t regret to have condemned it for trash.
6. The sound: If you want to pay careful attention to each detail, you should go to Spotify or Youtube and search for scary sound effects that seem to come from the afterlife. Place your speakers in the most appropriate spot in the living room. This way, all the guests will have to hold their breath as they arrive, worried to die of fright.
7. A good selection of movies: There are films for all tastes: The Exorcist, Psycho, The Shining, Scream, The Conjuring… and of course, all the ten movies of the Halloween franchise. It is essential to be able to choose in the best possible way. After all, you have invited your friends to a horror movie screening.
You can start preparing microwave popcorn right away. It may be a light-weight version of a Halloween party, but this is what we wanted for you: one way to laugh and have fun with your friends without squandering money.
