At the start of 2022, Megaworld reached a deal with the Manila Jockey Club to purchase PHP1.8 billion of land in Sta. Cruz, Manila. The developer has since been hard at work on plans for the prestigious which were recently unveiled.
A massive mixed-use development called Winford Resort has been earmarked for the San Lazaro racetrack site with the centerpiece being a casino. The project will also contain condominiums, hotels and commercial spaces.
The first residential element of Winford Resort was announced as well. One Crown Suites will be a 17-story condominium and incorporate a number of luxury elements. It is scheduled to be finished in 2028.
Design was a key focus for Winford Resort with Megaworld wanting to embrace the “pre-war” Manila aesthetic. Buildings will be designed using French Renaissance, Neo-Classical, and Art Deco architecture to help create Old Manila vibes.
“This commitment to revive the old beauty of Manila will be apparent in the designs of the commercial developments of this community,” Wilson Sy, First Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at Megaworld’s Manila Division, told Inquirer. “The beautiful architecture of the pre-war years will be seen in the Promenade, which is envisioned to become a major tourism destination in this side of Manila.”
The San Lazaro racetrack site was highly coveted by Megaworld who believes Winford Resort will allow the firm to increase its presence in Metro Manila. The developer is active in nearby Binondo where it built the Lucky Chinatown complex.
