Oftentimes, these places are cheap because their countries are experiencing difficult situations. But despite of that, low economy will never stop these places from being drop dead gorgeous.
Without further ado, below are the top 10 least expensive cities in the world, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), an organization that provides forecasting for entrepreneurs. Take a look at them.
10. Muscat, Oman
Surrounded by mountains and desert, this city in Oman is truly a sight to see. The city lies along the Gulf of Oman and is mostly dominated by white buildings mixed with an urban culture. According to the EIU, Muscat has an index score of 63 when it comes to the price or cost of living.
9. Dhaka, Bangladesh
The capital of Bangladesh is known for being the center for hub and trade in the said country. Mosques from past centuries still remain in this historical site. It currently scores at the EIU at 61.
8. Algiers, Algeria
The city’s large population might have affected its ranking. The city currently is home to 3,500,000 people. EIU report that Algiers has a score of 59.
7. Kathmandu, Nepal
Nepal’s capital has a score of 58. Kathmandu is known for being the headquarters for tourists who want to get a glimpse of the Himalaya.
6. Panama City, Republic of Panama
A modern city in the middle of Pacific Ocean and man-made Panama Canal, Panama City is truly a place to see. It has a breathtaking skyline surrounded by luscious forest. Founded by Spanish conquistador Pedro Arias Davila, Panama City has served as a point for expeditions in the past. Like Kathmandu, Panama City also has a score of 58 from the EIU.
5. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Coming in at number 5 is Jeddah at Saudi Arabia. This city is known as a commercial hub and getaway for pilgrims who visit the Islamic holy cities. EIU gives this city a score of 57.
4. New Delhi, India
New Delhi is an old city that dates back to the 1600s. It’s a witness to many historical changes that happened in the world. It has a score of 56 from the EIU. Take a peek at the world before time began by visiting this city.
3. Tehran, Iran
The capital of Iran is known for being the seat of power of the Qajar dynasty. Because of geopolitical issues, this capital has been experiencing a low score from the EIU with a mere 54.
2. Mumbai, India
Formerly known as Bombay, the colorful city is known for being the center for creating Bollywood films. It has a ranking of 52 from the EIU.
1. Karachi, Pakistan
One of the most populous city in the world (with 12 million people), Karachi ranks as the least expensive city in the world. It received a score of 46.
