Vigan City
Vigan City is known not only because of its delicious empanada but also because of Calle Crisologo. The 500-meter street is aligned with heritage mansions, complete with cobblestones and kalesas that drive around the area. Also add to your list the Bantay Church Bell Tower, Crisologo Museum, and Ilocos Regional Museum Complex.
Intramuros, Manila
The Walled City of Manila is part of every history buff’s bucket list. Some of its parts have been renovated or modernized but rest assured that the walls are retained and is still home to some of the oldest buildings in the country. Drop by Fort Santiago, Baluerte de San Diego, and San Agustin Church. Intramuros is also nearby other tops spots such as Rizal Part and Escolta.
Corregidor Island
Corregidor Island has a pivotal role during the Japanese occupation. The island located at 48 kilometers west of Manila was the perfect location for the Allied Forces to camp in against the Japanese soldiers. The result is the ruin of the buildings and tunnels in the island. It’s the perfect place to contemplate on the effects of war and how the horrific history may concern us today.
Dapitan
Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte is where national hero Jose Rizal was thrown for exile. Visit the National Park in Brgy. Talisay where memorabilia of Rizal during his stay in Dapitan can be found.
