Halloween is a time to spread fun and spook in the community. It’s the time where little kids turn into tiny goblins and witches; it’s the time when houses turn into candy shops because of the sweet treats that they give away. The whole community come together to bond and spread good cheer.
But sometimes real life monsters crawl onto the night to spread fear. There are scary clowns that are currently terrorizing the United States and planning on going international. Add to that are the ordinary criminals that are always lurking to do harm.
Protect your family and the whole neighborhood from any harm on Halloween night. If you and your family are going to attend Halloween parties or going trick or treating, you might want to take some notes and read the following precautions below.
Be prepared
Make sure that your kid is not alone during trick or treat. Go with them or if you’re too busy, ask an older person to go with your kid or let him or her trick or treat with his friends. Also give your child a bag full of necessary things such as the following:
- Flashlight
- Whistle
- Cellphone for calls
- Pocket money for emergency
- Map of the neighborhood
Wear comfortable costume
Make sure that your family’s Halloween costume is comfortable enough just in case of an emergency. Let your kids wear comfy running shoes so that they can run in case that they have to. Do not wear any costumes that may hinder you from moving freely.
Avoid unlit streets
Remember to not cross an unlit or unsafe street. You might never know the people who are lurking in those areas. Try to trick or treat on well lit places that has tons of people.
Plan a route
Just in case you won’t be able to come with your child, do not forget to give his Halloween group a map or a route that they should take. This way, you’ll be able to know where your child is heading and that he or she is in the right track.
Follow street safety rules
Did you know that a major disaster-related problem during Halloween are people getting hit by cars? Avoid this problem by remembering some safety rules in the streets like crossing in pedestrians, following traffic rules, or walking in sidewalks.
Notify subdivision guards
To further ensure your child’s safety, notify your local guards or barangay captains and ask them to keep an eye on your children. Ask for the phone number of the Halloween party’s organizer so that you’ll be able to keep track on your kids.
Check on the treats
Make sure that the candies that your child got from trick or treat is safe to eat. Remove any candies that looks fake or unsafe.
Don’t leave your house unguarded
If your whole family is leaving for the Halloween, make sure that your house is locked and safe. Check if the lights are turned off. Also check if the appliances are unplugged and if the gas is off. Or better yet, install security systems.
Have loads of fun without sacrificing your safety. Follow the reminders above to have a night that you’ll truly won’t forget.
